NDMC waives late fee on Dhobi Ghat water dues, approves 50 pc EV parking concession
The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Monday approved a one-time waiver of late payment surcharge on outstanding water dues of Dhobi Ghats and a 50 per cent concession in parking charges for electric vehicles.
Delhi Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh, who presided over the NDMC meeting, said the decisions were aimed at improving civic services and developing New Delhi as a modern and citizen-centric capital.
"The focus is to make New Delhi cleaner, better managed and more citizen-centric," Singh said, highlighting the relief for consumers with long-pending water dues and measures to promote electric vehicles.
According to the NDMC, around Rs 63.52 crore in water dues from Dhobi Ghats was outstanding as of April 2026.
The council approved a one-time waiver of the late payment surcharge on these outstanding bills. It also removed the earlier 2.5-times multiplication factor used for calculating water charges for Dhobi Ghats.
The sewerage charge will continue to be levied at 60 per cent of the water consumption charge, officials said.
The council also formalised the approval of a 50 per cent concession in parking charges for electric vehicles at all parking facilities operated by the NDMC.
Among other decisions, the council granted administrative sanction of Rs 18.26 crore for installing new street lights at identified dark spots.
It also approved Rs 6.09 crore for replacing seven non-functional escalators in Connaught Place subways.
The council further approved the introduction of smart electricity metering as part of measures to improve utility management.
It gave in-principle approval for setting up a 50-bed AYUSH hospital and research centre in Sarojini Nagar at an estimated cost of Rs 55 crore.
The facility is proposed to be developed jointly by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the NDMC.
The council also approved measures to strengthen water and sewerage systems, procure modern sewer-cleaning machines and introduce new solid waste management bye-laws.
Singh said the measures were intended to improve civic infrastructure and service delivery in the NDMC area.
